PPC Meeting with the World Bank and Commission regarding Western Macedonia

Today, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PPC, Mr Emm. Panagiotakis, along with senior executives of the Corporation, met with officials from the World Bank and the Commission tasked with monitoring and supporting Western Macedonia's transition into the post-lignite era.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Mr D. Mavromatidis, coordinator of the “Coal Platform” group for the Region of Western Macedonia, a detailed discussion took place concerning the current situation in Western Macedonia and the development prospects in light of the reduction in lignite activity.

The necessity of addressing these issues in an organised manner within a framework of absolutely clear principles and objectives was recognised, alongside the need for continuous institutional operation with complete
clarification of the roles and nature of all stakeholders involved.
On behalf of PPC, the particular significance of the involvement of the World Bank and the Commission was emphasised; a willingness and readiness to contribute to the formulation of strategic
objectives with the participation of all was declared, and reference was made to ongoing projects, such as the Studio at the Ptolemaida Thermal Power Plant, the creation of a farm with modern cultivation at the South Field site, and the Photovoltaic Park projects.
It was agreed to establish permanent communication via representatives and to resume meetings at the highest level, with a specific agenda when required.
